Worldline “Beyond Payments”
How will we shop and pay online the day after tomorrow? At the #BeyondPayments event in Zurich hosted by Worldline and Mastercard, the agenda focused on truly forward-looking commerce topics. In addition to a colorful supporting program featuring AI avatars, graffiti, and caricatures, the event for us revolved around the key question of how merchants can best prepare for the coming era of Agentic Commerce.
On stage, our expert Katharina Maurer, together with Arthur Eisenlohr, shed light on the topic of Agentic Commerce from the perspectives of Google and agencies. The absolute highlight: Although many shopping features in AI Mode aren’t even live yet in the DACH region, the topic has already caught on with companies. Retailers want to know how they can start preparing for it today. This enormous interest was also evident at our e-dialog booth, where Stephanie Mauerer, Ella Papadakis, Anton Waldner, and Sahra Marquardt had many exciting, in-depth conversations. Our takeaway is perfectly summed up by a quote from Bernhard Lachenmeier that day: “Let’s build trust with data together TODAY. And let’s invest in people who are willing to make mistakes.” A huge thank you to Worldline Switzerland, Vera Gieseke, and Melanie Vögelin for the fantastic organization!

Agentic Commerce: Between Fear and Trust
In their talk, Katharina Maurer and Arthur Eisenlohr made it clear: The question isn’t whether Agentic Commerce is coming, but when. And whoever is well-positioned by then will come out on top. Currently, this topic is triggering two main reactions in the market: fear and trust. The fear of missing out on the trend in the DACH region, making mistakes during testing, or finding oneself in a “prison for retailers.” On the other hand, there’s the confidence that AI will make us more efficient and that, in the end, the human element will make the decisive difference anyway. As Claude Michel Bravi Tordoni from Weisse Arena aptly put it: “The digital must support the offline experience.” In the end, it’s still the customer who decides whom to trust. For us, this means one thing: Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today. We need to prepare our data and systems now so we can provide our customers with the best possible support.
