Following the relaunches of the website (February 2024) and the mobile app (October 2024), KURIER anticipated massive traffic spikes. The previous legacy provider lacked the scalability and personalization needed to sustainably strengthen customer retention across email, web, and mobile. KURIER was looking for a future-proof, AI-powered engine. This engine was intended to deliver highly relevant articles across platforms and guarantee seamless performance even during peak usage.

The solution was to build a scalable recommendation engine on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). At its core is Vertex AI* Recommendations for Media: Based on real-time user behavior, recommendation APIs were created and specifically optimized for CTR. Automated pipelines import media catalog data and historical user events (via Google Tag Manager) for model training. Thanks to e-dialog’s deep GCP expertise and proven track record, the high-performance AI engine was quickly designed and successfully deployed.

Results

The implementation created a scalable, AI-powered foundation for personalized content delivery that seamlessly processes 70 million requests per month. By delivering high-quality recommendations via API, the project achieved an absolute increase in CTR of 3.1% and a relative increase of 24%. This cross-platform integration generates over 150,000 additional clicks per month and sustainably boosts engagement—from email to the website.
