No understanding without a baseline
Holistic MMMs help determine marketing effectiveness. This takes the baseline into account – the revenue that would be generated even without marketing measures. Factors such as brand awareness, word of mouth, and seasonality influence this baseline – the natural flow of a company’s revenue. Contrary to what many believe, an MMM is not a plug-and-play tool. It requires:
- at least one year of structured online and offline data or, alternatively (if the database is smaller), empirical values on channel effectiveness, e.g., from other attribution methods or experiments
